The Benefits of Crowdsourcing Your Music Production

The Benefits of Crowdsourcing Your Music Production

A Guest Post by Crowd Audio

Strength is in numbers.

When it comes to crowdsourced music production, strength comes from the ability to choose your favorite mix.

In our last competition we got some very different mixes. It’s actually quite amazing how the exact same tracks can sound so different in the hands of different audio engineers.

For instance:

Some engineers spend a lot of time mixing a very punchy and tight drum sound. They use heavy compression and all sorts of dynamic processing to get that drum sound really juicy.

Other engineers like the natural sound of the drum kit. They allow it to breathe with sparse use of compression and subtle EQ’ing.

Which one you like as a musician is obviously up to you, but wouldn’t it be great to hear both types of sounds side by side?

Some engineer spend a lot of time getting a produced vocal sound, filled with reverb, tuned to perfection and thick with effects.

Others like it more natural, with sparse effects and just a little depth from a delay to give it character.

Both of these approaches work, and you could even get the best of both worlds, with a dry in-your-face vocal sound with heavy effects.

Overall Mix

The fact is, every engineer approaches a mix differently. They have different starting points and methods that they use to get their mix going. None of them are going to sound the same, which is why the opportunity to have so many different options to choose from is so valuable.

If you want to submit your song to one of our competitions, send us an email with your song and we’ll guide you through the process.
